Ella Maria

Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Produced from our Rapaura vineyard, this Limited Edition Ella Maria Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc was hand-harvested at optimum ripeness and is released in celebration of the birth of Andrew and Marieke’s first Daughter, Ella Maria. 

100% barrel fermented and matured in 3 year old French Oak barrels for 9 months with regular and gentle lees stirring. The wine displays exotic tropical fruit, toasted pineapple, gooseberry and hints of capsicum with the subtle oak supplying layers of complexity and a long lingering finish.



The fruit for this Ella Maria Sauvignon Blanc was grown in a small block in Rapaura which is internationally renowned as the best in Marlborough for consistent production of fine fruit and intense characteristics. The fruit was hand-harvested at optimum ripeness and was gently crushed, pressed and the resulting juice was settled before being fermented, matured and kept on fine lees for ten months with gentle stirring in French Oak barrels with 20% being new oak.

Tasting Note

Bright golden in color this wine has a very complex and layered nose of pungent guava, passion-fruit, white peach and exotic spices, all blended in with an undercurrent of honeyed toast, butterscotch and mealy, biscuit notes. Typical for this barrel fermented, lees aged style there is a flinty character with tempered, clean acidity and a rich full body derived from time on lees clearly coming through in addition to the citrus and tropical fruits that provide backbone and lift.
