2021 Landmark Series

Native to Austria just like Arnold Schwarzenegger, our Grüner Veltliner has been turning heads since we came up with the crazy idea to produce this varietal in NZ. And just like Arnie and his pronounciation of 'California', you're gonna need help saying this one: 'GREW-ner Velt-LEEN-er'. Okay? 'We'll be back' with this one (sorry about that last bit)!

Complex, round and rich, our Grüner Veltliner has notes of orange, ripe stone fruit and white pepper. The palate is beautifully weighted and rounded. It is texturally appealing with lovely fruit vibrancy, leading to long and engaging finish.

Think spice. Grüner Veltliner is crisp and a perfect palate cleanser for richly flavored foods. While Grüner wines pair with classic Austrian dishes like sautéed kidneys, its newfound glory is with Asian spices. It’s also one of the few still wines that hold up against vegetable fare. Generally the more spark and flavour in your dish, the better our Grüner plays.

"Bright and pristine, the wine shows apricot, fresh fig, lemon zest and floral characters on the nose with a touch of spice. It’s succulent and flavoursome on the palate, delivering juicy fruit intensity backed by crisp acidity, finishing long and very tasty. A gorgeous expression of the variety.

At its best: now to 2024."

"Crisp, dry Grüner Veltliner from the Fareham Lane vineyard, with typical white pepper, mandarin blossom, and oyster-shell flavours. Quite a weighty, fleshy wine with refreshing acidity. Great with most seafood dishes."

Bob Campbell, The Real Review

The fruit for our Grüner was sourced from our flagship Fareham Lane Vineyard. Hand harvested and gently processed into the winery; the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts. The wine was allowed to age gracefully on yeast lees for 3 months before being lightly filtered and bottled in July 2020.
